Menacide

Biography

Menacide is a long time native of the West Michigan independent music scene with several notable accomplishments under his belt. In 2001, after releasing his acclaimed "In My World" EP, he went on to garner the attention of the Associated Press, the Michigan Radio Network, and established himself as an independent force to reckon with in the underground rap genre.

Noting a bulk of the west coast greats (including early pioneers N.W.A., among others) as his primary musical influences, Menacide developed a passion for reality based music that catered to the streets. In 1993, he was one-fifth of the Lansing, Mi based group Low Mafia , who made their start by slanging cassette tapes at the high school they attended, and at shows, parties, and malls on the weekends.

In '94, after venturing back to his native home of West Michigan, Menacide pursued the solo route, and began massing a remarkable amount of recorded material that would later become the groundwork for an aggressive first solo release ( The Dark Side Diary, 1995 ). He was successful in establishing a strong local following, and continued on to record two more full length albums under his previous underground moniker.

"The Dark Side Diary was basically an aggressive outlet for a lot of the shxt I had encountered in the years leading up to it. I was facing two fifteen year felonies for weapons and home invasion charges. My family and home life was messed up.. So that album was about as hardcore as my world around me at the time", he says, recalling the inspiration that wove it's way into his early lyrics.

In 1997, Menacide's brother and long time music comrad Lil' Greg was killed, bringing about what he thought would ultimately be the end of his music pursuit. After dropping a tribute album to his decesased brother the year after, Menacide unplugged his mic for the last time, and called it quits. "That was the most fxcked up time of my whole life, havin' to see my little brother layin' there in a casket with his face lookin' plastic. At that point, I really felt like it was over for me. It just didn't seem like it could get any worse. Music was the furthest thing from my mind. I wrote a final song called "End Of My Rope", that was basically my sucide letter in music form. I recorded that song with every intention of leaving it on my mom's table, and takin' my life.. ".

But things didn't stay bad for long. In 2000, Menacide found his way back to the notepad, and began laying the foundation for the "In My World" EP, an autobiographical insight intto the missing years in between his brother's death and his hiatus away from rap music. And in January 2001 when it was released, things began to change - and this time for the better...

Despite having had nominal success with his previous attempts and being successful in capturing the attention of the local media outlets, mom and pop record stores, and establishing a growing fan base, the "In My World" EP would ultimately outsell any other known West Michigan release of it's kind. After accepting an invitation to be a guest on a television featurette that broadcasted to over 3 million viewers, the IMW EP sold phenominally. Soon after, the Michigan Radio Network, Associated Press, and several other statewide media outlets began making contact. The autobiography of Menacide (IMW) continues to maintain a decent demand to this day.

Menacide's most recent release, the "Knuckle Up" LP, is a reuinion with his grimy street roots and passion for raw music. Boasting a track listing that includes the raw truth epic " Want U 2 Hate Me ", "Moment", and the underground anthem "Game Phonics" (feat. Mars), Knuckle Up is a smash back to existence and proclamation of love for the hardcore........ And that's the type of rawness ambition is made of.
